De Havilland DH-98 Mosquito
£54.50
The De Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine, two-seat World War II military aircraft which entered service in 1941. One of the fastest service aircraft in the world at the time, it would use its blistering speed as protection rather than on-board gunners and heavy armour. It was produced in various versions and quickly became a universal aircraft capable of long flights and was used in several roles such as Fighter, bomber and Photo-Reconnaissance. Regarded as one of the most successful fighter-bombers used during World War II, it was hailed as a wooden wonder by RAF pilots. Although a modern machine, it was mainly made of spruce wood, plywood and balsa and covered with canvas! The Mosquito was famously used in daytime, low-level, high-speed raids on Germany and many other targets, such as the famous raid on Gestapo headquarters located in Oslo, Norway.
